REDISCOVERED |
In April 2005, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service announced the rediscovery of the Ivory-billed woodpecker in Arkansas' Cache River National Wildlife Refuge. Long though extinct and not verifiably seen in 60 years, North America's largest woodpeckers have survived into the new millennium. After a sighting of the birds in a remote southern Louisiana swamp along the Pearl River in 1999, Wil was inspired to paint "Legends of the Pearl". This 40" x 60" oil on canvas is a life-size portrayal of the birds working a dead tree. With the verified discovery that is now made public, a new painting is in progress, which will be featured on this site in the near future. |
